With the excitement of Jadon’s arrival, and the attention he requires from Mommy and Daddy, and with Daddy leaving for our move to Atlanta next Sunday (stay tuned for more details on this!)… I’ve been trying to really make time to pay special attention to Joshua. I enjoy each moment with him immensely. He is such a precocious child, and all of his unexpected smart-alec retorts immediately break through the sleep-deprived tension that creeps in throughout the day. A fun example of Joshua in all his glory is our nap-time yesterday.
I went to lie down with Joshua for some Mommy-and-Joshua time, and we started off with a little snack, followed up with some story-reading, and were about to move on to singing songs when he asked to read more books. It was already quite late in the afternoon, and I needed him to go to sleep. I told him no, and he proceeded to beg for more stories. When he could see that I was standing firm, he tilts his head and says… “Howbout the bible? Hm?” Â
What a smart cookie my little man is. For the record, I held firm and we saved the bible stories for later… but what a little negotiator my boy is!
We set the alarm for 4:35am on Thursday, February 28th… and slipped out of the house minutes later to head to the Chester County hospital in time for my 5:30 prep for surgery. I somehow neglected to get any good belly shots during this pregnancy, but better late than never I guess; here is a shot of my big belly just before heading to the O.R:

We headed into the O.R. a few minutes after 7:30, and I was feeling a bit anxious as the memory of my difficult delivery with Joshua loomed in my head. The best word I can use to describe Joshua’s delivery is “violent”. And as the days lead up to Jadon’s delivery, I prayed fervently that this time would be different. I am more than delighted to report, the Lord heard my prayers, and the two experiences could not have been more different. With Jadon, although I experienced moments of nausea and a brief episode of vomiting, there was significantly less tugging and pulling, and no violent thrashing. There were moments where I actually smiled on the delivery table. It was if they just gently lifted Jadon out of my womb, and whala - I had a new baby boy. Here is a picture of mom, dad, and baby Jadon just after delivery. Notice my smile? It’s as if I hadn’t just endured extreme misery - imagine that!

Jadon was born weighing 8 pounds, 3 ounces and was 20 inches long. We were surpised at how big he was, but the bigger surprise was that he wasn’t an exact clone of Lane! He’s his own little person. In fact, we’re still studying his features to determine if there are hints of either of us in his chubby little face.
